Box Score LAFAYETTE, La. ? Louisiana-Lafayette (37-13, 20-6) banged out a season-high 24 hits on Saturday afternoon to down UALR 28-3 and clinch the Sun Belt Conference regular season title. The Trojans (20-28, 8-17) plated three runs in the top of the fourth to make it a 10-3 contest, but were unable to get any closer as ULL had five innings with four-or-more runs scored.
Five players tallied three-or-more hits for ULL, led by Jonathan Lucroy, who went 4-for-6 with four runs scored, two RBI and a pair of home runs. Matt Hicks, Scott Hawkins and Nolan Gisclair drove in four runs a piece, while No. 9-hitter Josh Logan led the club with five RBI off a 3-for-5 day at the plate. Logan (four runs scored, five RBI) and Hawkins (five runs scored, four RBI) each accounted for nine runs in the win, while Gisclair delivered a pinch-hit grand slam in the eighth inning ? his only at-bat of the game.
Hunter Moody improved to 7-3 by striking out eight and holding UALR to six hits and three runs over 6.0 innings. Andrew Laughter closed out the game with 3.0 scoreless innings to pick up his second save.
Freshman Ashur Tolliver (5-5) got the starting nod for UALR but didn't make it out of the third, as ULL racked up six hits and 10 runs (six earned) off the Sherwood, Ark.-native. UALR threw seven pitchers on the day, but none were able to cool off the ULL offense.
Seniors Brian Asbill and Ryan Gotcher, and junior Osvaldo Torres tallied two hits a piece in the loss. Senior Matt King drove in all three of UALR's runs with a bases-clearing double in the top of the fourth.
The two teams will conclude their three game series tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m.
