Box Score RIVERDALE, N.Y.?The UALR volleyball team recorded 18 service aces, while Manhattan College committed 13 service errors and 18 serve receive errors as the Trojans defeated the Jaspers 3-0 (30-19, 30-14, 30-12) in their second match at the Jasper Invitational Friday. The Trojans are now 2-3 on the season.
Melissa Soares recorded a career and team high of eight service aces, while Anita Bucur and Lenka Melicharkova each knocked down four.
Amila Barakovic led the team for the fifth straight match in kills with nine, while Bucur knocked down seven.
Amy Hafner recorded a team high 16 digs, and Marina Marinova contributed 10 digs.
In game one, the Trojans recorded eight service aces including six by Soares.
Barakovic started the game with a kill, before a service error by UALR tied the score.
With the score 3-2, UALR recorded six consecutive points to expanded their lead.
Manhattan College came within four points, but UALR kept their lead and won the game on a service ace by Melicharkova.
The Trojans jumped to a 7-0 lead in game two including two aces by Melicharkova.
The Jaspers got as close as nine points, but UALR closed out the second game with three straight aces by Bucur.
A UALR ball handling error gave Manhattan College the first point in game three, but the Trojans scored four straight points to gain the lead and sustain it.
An attack error by the Jasper sealed the match win for the Trojans.
UALR completes action at the Jasper Invitational Saturday as they face Maryland-Eastern Shore. Match is set for 10 a.m. E.S.T.
