UALR Wins Second Straight Match 3-0 Over Louisiana-Lafayette

LITTLE ROCK, Ark.?The UALR volleyball team won their second straight match 3-0 (30-17, 30-23, 30-21) over Louisiana-Lafayette Saturday at the Jack Stephens Center.  The Trojans improve to 11-5 overall and 3-1 in Sun Belt Conference action.

 

“I thought it was a good win for us,” said head coach Van Compton.  “Our kids played well throughout the match.  It was a good win at home and was good to keep our momentum going.”

 

Anita Bucur led the team in kills with 18 and in attack percentage with .586 recording just one error on 29 attempts. 

 

Lena Melicharkova recorded her ninth double-double of the season with 43 assists and ten digs, while Amy Hafner led the team with 13 digs.

 

UALR recorded nine blocks including two block solos a piece from Ivanka Davidova and Katie McCutcheon.

 

UALR kept the lead throughout the entire match knocking down 17 kills in all three games and recording a .376 attack percentage for the match.

 

In game one, the Trojans jumped to a 2-0 lead on a kill by Amila Barakovic and a service ace by Melicharkova.

 

After a service error gave the Ragin' Cajuns a point, UALR knocked down six consecutive points to expand their lead.

 

UALR won 30-17 on an attack error by Louisiana-Lafayette.

 

The Trojans started game two with a 3-0 lead on a kill by Barakovic and two kills by Bucur.

 

With the score 23-16 in UALR's favor, Louisiana-Lafayette pushed points knocking down five consecutive points to come within three.

 

UALR sustained their advantage and won 30-23 on an attack error by the Ragin' Cajuns.

 

In game three, UALR started with a 2-0 lead on kills by Bucur, before Louisiana-Lafayette scored on a kill by Monica Deschaine.

 

With the score 22-15, the Ragin' Cajuns scored three straight points, but the Trojans scored on a kill by Bucur.

 

UALR won the match on a kill by Barakovic.

 

UALR continues volleyball action Sunday as they host New Orleans.  Match is set for 1 p.m. at the Jack Stephens Center.
