UALR Loses at Western Kentucky 63-49

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.?The UALR women's basketball team's six game winning streak was snapped by Western Kentucky as the Trojans lost 63-49 to the Lady Toppers Wednesday at E.A. Diddle Arena.  The Trojans fall to 15-6 overall and 7-3 in the Sun Belt Conference, while Western Kentucky won their 11th straight and improve to 17-5 overall and 10-0 in the SBC.

 

Anshel Cooper led all scorers with 20 points going 8-of-16 from the floor and 4-of-6 from the line, while Andrea Keys knocked down eight points and brought down a team high of ten boards.

 

Western Kentucky opened the first half on a 7-0 run including a three-pointer by Kenzie Rich.  Kim Sitzmann knocked down UALR's first field goal at the 16:48 mark on a jumper.

 

After a jumper by Cooper, the Lady Toppers went on a 7-2 run to extend their lead to 14-6 with 12:43 on the clock.  Asriel Rolfe answered back with two free throws for UALR.

 

Over the next four minutes, WKU out scored UALR ten to eight to keep their advantage at eight points.

 

Both teams exchanged baskets, before a jumper by Cooper cut the lead to six points.

 

The Lady Toppers broaden their lead back to nine points over the next minute and a half going on a five to two run including two points by Crystal Kelly.

 

UALR out scored the Lady Toppers eight to four with four points coming from Cooper including the last shot with 0.1 seconds before the half to bring the half-time score to 35-30.

 

Western Kentucky opened the second half on a 17-0 run including four points from Kelly to extend their lead to 52-33 with 13:08 remaining.

 

At the 12:36 mark, Chastity Reed knocked down a three-pointer to spark a 9-0 run by the Trojans including four from Cooper.  WKU answered back with three straight points to bring the score to 54-39 with 8:02 remaining.

 

With 7:25 on the clock, the Lady Toppers extended their lead back to 20 after two free throws by Kelly and a layup by Hope Brown.

 

Over the remaining five minutes, UALR out scored WKU ten to four including four points from Keys, but the Lady Toppers held on to their lead for the 63-49 win.

 

UALR continues basketball action on Wednesday, February 6 as they travel to Murfreesboro, Tenn. to face Middle Tennessee.  Game is set for 7 p.m.
