Box Score LITTLE ROCK, Ark.?For the first time since joining Division I, the UALR volleyball team has recorded back-to-back 20-win seasons with a 3-1 (25-20, 25-18, 26-28, 25-20) win over Florida Atlantic Sunday at the Jack Stephens Center. The Trojans improve to 20-5 overall and 9-3 in the Sun Belt Conference.
“This time of year the wins get tougher and tougher,” said head coach Van Compton. “Everybody is playing to their best ability. It is good to get a win.”
Amila Barakovic led the Trojans in kills tying her season high with 21, while Anita Bucur recorded 13 kills and a team high .344 attack percentage. Becky Mann also recorded double-digit kills with 11.
Guiliana De Francesco recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 50 assists and ten digs, while Amy Hafner tallied a team high 16 digs. Katie McCutcheon recorded a career high four block solos and led the tam with seven blocks.
Florida Atlantic (10-13, 3-8 SBC) started the first set on a 5-0 run including two UALR attack errors.
The Trojans scored their first point on a kill by Barakovic followed by two more points on FAU errors.
UALR pushed points tying the score eight times. With the score 15 all, the Trojans knocked down three consecutive points to bring their advantage to 18-15.
The Trojans held FAU to 20 points and scored the last two on kills by De Francesco and Barakovic.
UALR jumped to a 3-0 lead in set two on two Owl errors and a kill by De Francesco. After both teams exchanged points, FAU scored four straight to come within four.
FAU scored 18 points in the set with the Trojans knocking down as many as four and winning on a kill by De Francesco.
In set three, the score tied four times, before UALR took the lead on a FAU attack error. The Owls pushed points and tied the score numerous times while gaining the lead.
With the score 23-21 in FAU's favor, the Trojans recorded two straight points on a kill by Lora Dickey and a FAU error to tie the score.
The score tied twice with UALR gaining the match point. With the score 26 all, FAU recorded two points on kills by Anne Vaughan and Kristyna Dzmuranova to win the set 28-26.
FAU jumped to a 1-0 lead in set four on a UALR attack error. The lead exchanged hands with the Owls holding the slight edge. With the score tied at 12, UALR scored two straight points to take the lead.
UALR held the Owls to 20 points and won the set and match on a kill by Barakovic.
UALR continues volleyball action on Tuesday as they host Arkansas State. Match is set for 7 p.m.
