Box Score CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.?The UALR women's basketball team recorded their lowest field goal percentage of the season at 36.2 percent as the Trojans lost on the road 57-45 to Southeast Missouri State. UALR falls to 2-1 on the season.
Anshel Cooper led the Trojans with 16 points, while Channon Haywood recorded a team high of eight rebounds.
After UALR won the tip, a steal and fast break layup by Asriel Rolfe with 19:32 on the clock started a 5-0 run to open the half. Southeast Missouri State scored their first field goal at the 16:22 mark on a jumper by Rachel Blunt to bring the score to 5-2.
Over the next three minutes, both teams exchanged points with the Trojans holding the lead. With 11:38 until the half, Cooper knocked down back-to-back jumpers to put UALR up 13-7.
Haywood knocked down a jumper for the Trojans, before SEMO scored four straight points to cut the lead to four.
After a free throw by Marian Kursh, the Redhawks scored seven consecutive points taking their first lead of the game on a jumper and one by Blunt to bring the score to 18-16.
With 2:04 until the half, Cooper knocked down a jumper but missed a free throw opportunity to tie the score at 18.
In the remaining seconds of the half, SEMO missed two free throw opportunities to go into the half with the score tied.
The Redhawks opened the second half with a three-pointer and free throw by Tarina Nixon to take their largest lead of the game 22-18. A block by Kursh followed by a jumper by Cooper cut the lead to two with 16:50 remaining.
After a three by Lauren Sharpe for SEMO, Cooper scored back-to-back jumper to bring the Trojans within one with 14:08 remaining. The Redhawks answered back scoring five straight points to regain a 30-24 lead.
A steal and free throw by Rolfe sparked a seven point run by the Trojans to take their first lead of the second half 31-30.
Both teams exchanged points with UALR holding the edge. With 8:05 remaining, the Redhawks scored 11 straight points to extend their lead to 44-35.
The Trojans scored their next field goal at the 4:36 mark on a jumper by Cooper, before two free throws by Sonya Daugherty regained the nine point lead for SEMO.
After a free throw by Haywood, SEMO knocked down five points while holding UALR scoreless to bring the score to 51-38 in the Redhawks favor.
Mattilyn McIntyre knocked down a three-pointer with 59 second remaining, but SEMO scored six straight points on free throws. Shanika Butler scored five points in the remaining seconds including a last second three-pointer, but the Redhawks won their third straight 57-45.
UALR continues non-conference action on Tuesday as they travel to face Grambling State. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
