Box Score LITTLE ROCK, Ark.?The UALR women's basketball team stretched their home winning streak to 26 with a 63-46 win over Tulsa Tuesday at the Jack Stephens Center. The Trojans 7-1 start is the best in school history.
“I thought the first 12 or 13 minutes of the second half, we really responded well with great defense,” said head coach Joe Foley. “We got our offense going and got Tulsa back on their heels which I thought was the difference in the game.”
Kim Sitzmann recorded her third 20 or more point game of the season leading all scorers with 20 points including five three-pointers. Chastity Reed recorded 14 points and led the team in rebounds with six, while Anshel Cooper knocked down 11 points.
After UALR won the tip, a jumper by Reed sparked a 7-0 run by the Trojans. Tulsa scored their first field goal at the 18:25 mark on a jumper by ReShawndra Jackson.
Over the next two minutes, the Trojans out scored the Golden Hurricane four to two to bring UALR's lead to 11-4. A three-pointer by Tatum Beer sparked a 5-3 run to bring Tulsa within five.
Tulsa scored a point on a free throw, before a steal by Sitzmann followed by a three-pointer by Asriel Rolfe extended the Trojans lead back to 17-10 with 10:16 until the half.
The Golden Hurricane scored eight points to the Trojan's three over the next four minutes to come with two. With 5:18 on the clock, Sitzmann knocked down five straight points to bring the score to 25-18.
Both teams exchanged points with UALR holding the edge. With 3.5 second remaining until the half, Sitzmann knocked down a three-pointer to bring the score to 35-24.
Tulsa opened the second half with a jumper by Kara Vaughan, before the Trojans scored four straight points on free throws by Cooper and a fast break layup by Sitzmann to extend the Trojan lead to 37-26.
Two turnovers by UALR allowed for three points by the Golden Hurricane to cut the lead to ten.
After a free throw by Sitzmann and a jumper by Vaughan for Tulsa, the Trojans scored 16 straight points holding the Golden Hurricane scoreless to extend their lead to 56-31 with 9:03 remaining.
Tulsa scored their next field goal in six minutes at the 8:47 mark on a jumper by Chanel Johnson.
After a jumper by Cooper, Tulsa held the Trojans scoreless over the next three minutes while scoring five straight points to bring the score to 58-39.
UALR held the lead in the remaining 1:56 brining the final score to 64-46.
UALR continues basketball action on Sunday as they travel to Springfield, Mo. to face Missouri State. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
