Box Score LITTLE ROCK, Ark.?The UALR women's basketball team extended their home winning streak to 28 with a 68-50 Sun Belt Conference win over ULM Wednesday at the Jack Stephens Center. The Trojans improve to 10-3 overall and 2-0 in conference action.
“In the first half, we tried in the first four or five possessions to make one pass and a shot and didn't get any rhythm going,” said head coach Joe Foley. “I thought in the second half we slowed down a lot and played much better basketball.”
Chastity Reed recorded a career high of 29 points going 13-of-24 from the field and a double-double with a team high of ten rebounds. Kim Sitzmann recorded 15 points, including two three-pointers, and six rebounds.
The Trojans scored the first points of the game at the 19:14 mark on a put back by Sitzmann. ULM knocked down their first field goal at the 16:50 mark on a three-pointer by Jesse Carrier followed by a jumper by Shannon Davis to take the 5-2 lead.
After three more points by the Warhawks, a jumper by Reed at the 15:51 mark sparked a 6-0 run to tie the score at eight.
Over the next two minutes, ULM out scored UALR seven to two to regain a 15-10 advantage. A steal followed by a free throw by Anshel Cooper sparked nine unanswered points by the Trojans to gain a 21-15 advantage with 6:36 until the half.
The Warhawks answered back with back-to-back three-pointers by Lottie Moore and Carrier to tie the score at 21 with 5:06 on the clock.
A three-pointer by Sitzmann started an 8-2 run by the Trojans for a 29-25 lead. Over the remaining 28.2 seconds, two steals followed by jumpers by Reed and Sitzmann brought the half-time score to 33-25 in UALR's favor.
ULM opened the second half with four straight points by Sannisha Williams, before UALR knocked down four straight points by Reed and Marian Kursh with 17:22 remaining.
With 17:01 on the clock, the Warhawks scored six unanswered points to cut the Trojans lead to two. Both teams knocked down points, before a jumper by Reed sparked a 6-0 run to bring the score to 45-37 with 12:33 remaining.
Over the next two minutes, Shanika Butler scored four points and recorded two steals, while Reed knocked down a jumper to extend the Trojan lead 51-37.
UALR scored seven points to ULM's six to maintain a 58-45 lead. In the remaining 5:32, the Trojans maintained their advantage and win 68-50.
UALR continues Sun Belt Conference action on Saturday as they travel to Bowling Green, Ky. to face Western Kentucky. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
