Box Score 2 MURFREESBORO, Tenn. ? After dropping the first two contests of a three-game Sun Belt Conference series with Middle Tennessee, the UALR baseball team (5-19, 2-8) bounced back with a 15-8 victory on Sunday. Senior Robert Taylor went 3-for-4 with two home runs and a career-high six RBI to help the Trojans avoid a sweep at the hands of the Blue Raiders (12-10-1, 5-6).
Senior Levi Laughlin improved to 3-1 on the year by working 8.0 innings on Sunday. The Sapulpa, Okla.-native allowed 11 hits and seven runs to the Blue Raiders, but racked up seven strikeouts against just one walk.
Taylor and junior Eric Hanlon provided Laughlin with all the run support he would need, as the duo combined to drive in 10 runs. Taylor hit a three-run homer in the first, and added a two-run shot in the sixth. Hanlon went 2-for-3 on the day with four RBI, and belted his first home run of the year ? a two-run shot in the eighth. Senior Nick DeSanctis and junior Matt Apfel tied for the team lead with four hits a piece, with DeSanctis belting his first home run of the year in the fifth inning.
Prior to Sunday's series finale, the two teams completed Saturday's postponed game, with the Blue Raiders picking up a 34-8 victory. Bishop Rawley led MT to the win by accounting for 11 total runs, with five runs scored and six RBI. The Blue Raiders hit seven home runs in the win, two of which came compliments of Rawley.
UALR returns to action Tuesday afternoon when it welcomes Mississippi Valley State to Gary Hogan field at 2 p.m. After that, the Trojans will head to Dickey-Stephens Park for an exhibition game with the Arkansas Travelers at 7 p.m.
