Box Score CONWAY, Ark. ? Central Arkansas (14-19) scored five runs in the first inning on its way to a 7-4 win over the UALR baseball team (7-22) on Wednesday afternoon at UCA Field.
UALR starter Adam Champion (1-3) lasted just one inning, as a leadoff walk by Payton Seelinger set the stage for a five-run inning by the Bears. UCA tallied five hits in the first, with Kyle Taylor capping off the scoring with a two-run single up the middle. UALR finally got out of the inning by inducing a 4-6-3 double play from Josh Huffman.
The Trojans held the Bears to six hits and two runs over the final seven innings, but were unable to put together a comeback against the UCA pitching staff. Starter Brandon Dunn evened his record at 2-2 by holding the Trojans to four hits and two runs over the first 5.0 innings. The Bears' bullpen closed out the game by allowing just four hits over the final 4.0 frames.
UCA extended its lead to 6-0 in the second when Seelinger hit a solo homer to left. Trailing 6-0 after three innings, the Trojans scored a run in four of the next five innings, but wound up on the wrong end of a 7-4 final.
The Trojans banged out eight hits in the loss, with junior Daniel Guffey, and seniors Nick DeSanctis and Robert Taylor, tallying two hits a piece. Senior reliever Steve Gilgenbach threw 3.0 scoreless innings after taking the mound in the fifth, allowing just one hit while striking out three.
UALR returns to action this weekend, when it welcomes South Alabama to Gary Hogan Field for a three-game series (April 11-13). Friday's first pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
