UALR Wins Sixth Straight Conference Match-up Over Louisiana-Lafayette

LAFAYETTE, La.?The UALR women's basketball team recorded their biggest point spread of the season defeating Louisiana-Lafayette 77-46 at the Earl K. Long Gymnasium Wednesday.  Three Trojans scored in double figures as UALR improves to 14-3 overall and 6-0 in Sun Belt Conference action.

 

Kim Sitzmann led the team in points with 17 points including four three-pointers, while Chastity Reed recorded 13 points and a team high four assists.

 

Anshel Cooper scored 12 points and recorded a team high four assists, while Shanika Butler led the team in rebounds with six and knocked down four points.

 

After winning the tip, UALR scored the first six points of the game within a minute and three seconds.  The Ragin' Cajuns (3-14, 0-6 SBC) scored their first field goal at the 18:36 mark on a three-pointer by Alexis Green sparking a 6-0 run to tie the game.

 

Over the next six minutes, the Trojans held UL to two points while scoring 12 including four by Sitzmann to take their largest lead at 18-8.  Both teams exchanged points with the Ragin' Cajuns edging UALR 9-8 to bring the score to 26-17 in the Trojans' favor with 9:25 on clock.

 

After a three-point play by Reed and a layup by Butler for UALR, the Ragin' Cajuns recorded six points to the Trojans' four to cut the lead to 35-23 with 4:03 until the half.

 

In the remaining 3:09, UALR knocked down eight points including two three-pointers by Sitzmann while holding UL to two free throws to extend their half-time lead to 43-25.

 

Sitzmann and Cooper opened the second half with jumpers, before UL answered back with four points from Green and Jasmine Barnes to keep the Trojan lead at 18.

 

At the 16:49 mark a jumper by Reed sparked 11 points by UALR to the Ragin' Cajuns nine to expand their lead back to 58-38.  Over the next seven minutes, UALR recorded 13 points including going on a seven point run while holding UL to a layup to reach their greatest lead of the game at 71-40 with 3:48 remaining.

 

In the remaining 2:09, both teams knocked down six points with the Trojans seeing four from Megan Williams to win 77-46.

 

UALR continues basketball action on Saturday as they host Middle Tennessee.  Tip-off is set for 4:30 p.m. at the Jack Stephens Center.
