ROCK, Ark.—The UALR volleyball team won their second straight
meeting this season over ULM 3-0 (25-18, 25-7, 25-12) and participated in Dig
Pink wearing pink uniforms and honoring Betty Jo Stephens. The Trojans improve to 11-9 overall and 5-4
in Sun Belt Conference action.
“It was a good win after last night's loss,” said head
coach Van Compton. “This was the first time we did Dig Pink, and
I thought it was a success.”
Anita
Bucur led the team with 12 kills, while Emily Pepperman led the team with 16 digs. Giuliana
De Francesco recorded a team high of 38 assists.
UALR took a 1-0 lead in set one with a kill by Daniele Souza Moura, before ULM (3-21,
0-9 SBC) tied the score on a kill. The
Trojans recorded two straight kills by Katharina
Nobel and Bucur to regain the lead and sustain it.
The Trojans scored as many as five points while holding
ULM to 18 for the set. A Warhawk attack
error gave UALR the set win.
UALR recorded the team's highest attack percentage in set
two recording 14 kills on 21 attempts with no errors for a .667 mark. ULM recorded their lowest of .000 with four
kills on 26 attempts and four errors.
Both teams exchanged points with the score tying twice
to open the set. With the score tied at
two, a kill by Nobel sparked a 9-0 run by the Trojans.
ULM scored seven points for the set with UALR winning
the set on kills by Becky Mann and
Nobel.
In set three, the lead changed twice with the score
tying three times. UALR recorded a .562
attack percentage for the set.
After both teams exchanged points, ULM took their first
lead of the match on a bad set by the Trojans.
A kill by Mari O'Neal gave ULM the 4-2 advantage. The Trojans pushed points recording four
straight including two kills by Bucur.
UALR sustained their lead holding ULM to 12 points and
winning he set and match on a kill by Nobel.
UALR continues Sun Belt Conference action tomorrow as
they host Louisiana-Lafayette. Match is
set for 3 p.m. at the Jack Stephens Center.
