UALR volleyball team lost a hard fought five set battle to Arkansas State 2-3
(22-25, 25-22, 23-25, 25-22, 16-18) Tuesday at the Convocation Center. The Trojans fall to 13-11 overall and 7-6 in
conference action.
Anita
Bucur led the team in kills with 19, while Kristi Block recorded 11 kills and a career
and team high of five block solos and six total blocks. Becky
Mann also contributed 11 kills.
Emily
Pepperman recorded a career and team high of 30 digs, while Giuliana De Francesco recorded a
double-double with 15 digs and a team high of 48 assists. Kehly
MacDuff recorded 12 digs, while Daniele
Souza Moura recorded ten digs.
UALR recorded 107 team digs, 12 team blocks, and a .201
team attack percentage, all match highs.
In the first set, the Trojans jumped to a 3-0 lead on an
ASU attack error and kills by Bucur and Katharina
Nobel. Arkansas State (18-9, 8-5)
pushed points tying the score at five on a service error.
The score tied six more times with the lead changing
once. With the score 22 all, ASU knocked
down three straight kills to win the set.
After a 2-0 start in set two by the Red Wolves, UALR
capitalized on ASU errors to the 3-2 advantage.
The score tied two more times, before the Trojans recorded two
consecutive points on kills by Bucur.
UALR held on to the lead scoring as many as three straight
points and winning the set 25-22 on a Red Wolf attack error.
Despite losing the third set 25-23, the Trojans
recorded their highest attack percentage of the match with a .361 mark. UALR recorded 15 kills on 36 attempts and
only two errors.
The score tied five times with the lead changing four
in the set. With the score tied at 23,
ASU knocked down two kills for the set win.
UALR jumped to a 3-0 start in set four including two
ASU errors and a kill by Nobel. The
Trojans sustained the advantage until the Red Wolves pushed points tying the
score at eight.
After four more score ties and four lead changes, UALR
scored four of the last five points winning the set 25-22 on a kill by Bucur.
Set five featured ten tied scores and four lead changes
as ASU jumped to the 2-0 lead. A kill by
Bucur and an ASU error tied the score for the Trojans.
In the remaining seven points, the score tied three
times with the Red Wolves holding the edge.
With the score 16 all, two kills by Taylor Coughlin sealed the 18-16 set
win and the match.
UALR continues conference action on Friday as the team
travels to Denton, Texas to face North Texas.
Match is set for 7 p.m.
