MORAGA,
Calif.—Nebraska used 40 points in the second half to UALR's 22
to defeat the women's basketball team 62-45 Friday at the St. Mary's Hilton Concord
Tournament. The Trojans fall to 3-2 on
the season, while the Huskers improve to 5-0.
Chastity
Reed led
the Trojans with 23 points, seven rebounds, and four steals, while Asriel Rolfe contributed eight points
and five boards.
After
Nebraska won the tip, the Huskers opened the half on a 4-0 with all points
coming from Cory Montgomery. UALR scored
the team's first field goal at the 18:09 mark with a layup by Reed followed by
a put back by Britteni Williams to
tie the score.
Both
teams exchanged points, before a three-pointer by Rolfe with 14:09 on the clock
gave the Trojans the team's first lead of the game 8-6. Nebraska answered back with five unanswered
points to regain an 11-8 advantage.
After
a Husker jumper, Reed knocked down the Trojan's first field goal in almost four
minutes to cut the advantage to 13-10.
Over the next minutes, Nebraska outscored UALR five to two to stretch
the advantage to 18-12 with 8:48 until the half.
A
layup by Kim Sitzmann with 7:46 on
the clock sparked a 5-0 run by UALR, before four straight points by Kelsey
Griffin regained a 22-17 lead for the Huskers.
In
the remaining 3:08, UALR scored six points while holding Nebraska scoreless to
take the 23-22 half-time lead.
The
opening 3:14 of the second half both teams exchanged points with Reed scoring
all six for UALR and Griffin scoring all seven for Nebraska tying the score at
29. At the 15:14 mark, Yvonne Turner
knocked down a three-pointer followed by a steal and layup to give the Huskers
the 33-29 advantage.
The
next two minutes both teams scored six points with points from Sitzmann, Reed,
and Butler for UALR and a three-pointer by Griffin for the Huskers. A steal by Reed followed by a layup by
Britteni Williams followed by a free throw by Rolfe tied the score at 28.
At
the 10:29 mark, a layup by Turner sparked a 10-2 run by Nebraska including
back-to-back three-pointers by Montgomery for the Huskers and two free throws
by Rolfe for UALR.
After
two baskets by Nebraska, UALR scored the team's first field goal since the
12:08 mark with a steal and fast break layup by Reed to cut the Husker lead to
52-42 at the 5:23 mark.
Over
the next three minutes, Nebraska scored seven points to UALR's one bringing the
score to 59-43.
In
the remaining 3:18, the Huskers scored three points to UALR's two to win 62-45.

continues basketball action tomorrow as they face Drake. Tip-off has been changed to 8 p.m. C.S.T.
