ROCK, Ark.—Despite forcing a fourth set, the UALR volleyball team
lost 1-3 (13-25, 17-25, 25-23, 20-25) to in-state rivals Arkansas State Friday at
the Jack Stephens Center. The Trojans
fall to 14-13 overall and 8-8 in conference action.
Anita
Bucur led the Trojans with 14 kills, while Paige Gantar contributed nine and led
the team in attack percentage with a .444 mark.
Three Trojans scored in double-figure digs with Giuliana De Francesco recording a
double-double with 13 digs and a team high of 36 assists. Emily
Pepperman led the team in digs with 14, while Jennifer Elbert contributed 11.
Arkansas State (20-10, 10-6 SBC) opened the first set
on a 5-0 run while recording the team's highest attack percentage of .424 for
the set. A kill by Bucur gave the
Trojans their first point of the set.
The Red Wolves held UALR to 13 points and won the set
on two kills.
The Trojans recorded their lowest attack percentage of
the match in the second set recording eight kills on 25 attempts with six
errors for a .080 mark.
Both teams exchanged points including a kill by Katharina Nobel for UALR, before the
Red Wolves recorded four consecutive points for the 5-1 advantage. The Trojans never gained the advantage
scoring 17 points for the set, while ASU won on a kill by Taylor Coughlin.
UALR recorded the team's highest attack percentage in
set three recording 18 kills on 50 attempts with only three errors for a .300
mark.
The score tied 15 times with the lead changing seven
for the set as ASU jumped to a 2-0 lead.
UALR tied the score but never gained the advantage throughout most of
the set.
With the score 23 all, back-to-back kills by De
Francesco gave UALR the 25-23 set win.
The score tied four times with the lead changing four
in the fourth set. The Red Wolves opened
to a 3-0 start, before a Red Wolf service error gave the Trojans their first
point.
UALR pushed points tying the score at eight on a kill
by Gantar, before the Trojans took their first lead on an ASU attack error.
After an ASU attack error tied the score at 15, the
Trojans kept their advantage with kills by Becky
Mann, De Francesco, and Nobel.
A UALR attack error tied the score at 18 sparking a 5-0
run by the Red Wolves for the 22-18 lead.
The Trojans would score two more points in the set, but
ASU won on a kill by Brittany Hoag.
UALR continues volleyball action on Friday, November 13
as the Trojans host Denver. Match is set
for 4:30 p.m. at the Jack Stephens Center.
