Box Score DENTON, Texas?Sophomore Asriel Rolfe knocked down two free throws with 6.8 seconds remaining in overtime to give the UALR women's basketball team a 57-52 win over North Texas Saturday at The Super Pit. The Trojans improve to 22-5 overall and tie their most conference wins record at 14-2.
Sophomore Chastity Reed led all scorers with 19 points and led the team in rebounds with 11, while junior Anshel Cooper scored 14 points and recorded a team high of five steals. Junior Kim Sitzmann contributed 13 points and team highs of five assists and five steals.
UALR opened the first half with a three-pointer by Sitzmann before North Texas (10-17, 6-10 SBC) scored four straight points on jumpers for the 4-3 advantage.
Reed knocked down a jumper at 17:20 to regain a one point advantage for the Trojans. Back-to-back layups by Amber Jackson and Yari Escalera brought the score to 8-5 in UNT's favor.
After a steal by Reed followed by a jumper by Cooper, Jo Hall scored back-to-back jumpers to extend the Mean Green lead to five with 12:01 until the half.
Over the next three and a half minutes, North Texas out scored UALR five to four including a three-pointer by Brittney James with 7:37 on the clock for the large Mean Green lead at 17-11.
A three-pointer and jumper by Sitzmann brought the Trojans within one, before UNT scored four points to Reed's jumper brining the score to 21-18 with 4:10 until the half.
Over the next minute and a half, UNT scored eight points to UALR's four, before a jumper by Reed and a three-point play by Sitzmann pulled the Trojans within two with 8.4 on the clock.
A last second shot by Tricia Lee brought the score to 31-27 in UNT's favor going into the half.
In the opening two minutes of the second half, the Trojans out scored the Mean Green six to two including four points from Reed to tie the score at 33 with 16:55 on the clock.
After six consecutive points by UNT, Cooper scored a jumper at the 12:39 to cut the Mean Green lead to four. A jumper by Reed at the 11:13 mark sparked a 6-0 run by the Trojans to take their first lead of 41-39.
Over the next three minutes, North Texas scored five straight points including three off of free throws, while the Trojans missed a one-and-one opportunity to give UNT a 44-41 advantage with 3:55 remaining.
With 2:35 on the clock, Cooper scored all five points for the Trojans to UNT's one to give the Trojans a 47-45 lead. At the 24.1 mark, Hall knocked down a layup to tie the score at 47.
In the remaining seconds, both teams remained scoreless to send the game into overtime.
Reed opened overtime with a jumper, before Jackson answered back with a jumper to tie the score at 49. After two missed free throws by UNT, Cooper knocked down a jumper to give UALR a 51-49 advantage.
The Trojans missed two free throws, before Jackson scored one free throw to come with one. With 1:11 remaining, Marian Kursh powered in a put back to give UALR the 53-50 lead.
In the remaining 46.8, UALR out scored the Mean Green four to two all free throws including two by Rolfe with 6.8 remaining to win 57-52.
UALR continues conference action on Wednesday as they host New Orleans. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at the Jack Stephens Center.
