Trojans Fall At McNeese State, 15-7

LAKE CHARLES, La. ? McNeese State (4-0) banged out 11 hits and drew 13 walks on Tuesday evening to hand the UALR baseball team (2-2) a 15-7 loss at Cowboy Diamond. The Trojans committed five errors in the game and were held scoreless over the final six innings.

 

Steven Irvine was one of four Cowboys with a multi-hit effort on Tuesday, leading the team with three RBI off a 2-for-3 day at the plate. Lee Orr and Ryan Brauninger scored three runs a piece to help McNeese remain undefeated.

 

The Trojans mustered just seven hits against the Cowboys' three pitchers, with Todd Fontenot closing out the game with 3.2 scoreless innings. Fontenot did not surrender a hit during his outing, and was credited with his first save of the year.

 

Scott Holstein (1-0) got the win for McNeese State despite allowing five hits and four runs over 4.1 innings in relief of starter Ross Olson, who lasted just one inning.

 

UALR junior Anthony Pryor made his first start of the year on Tuesday, and was roughed up for six hits and seven runs (two earned) over 2.2 innings of work. Sophomore Brandon Welch (0-1) came on in relief of Pryor in the third inning and was credited with the loss after allowing three hits and three runs over 1.1 innings pitched.

 

Juniors Nate Brown and Tyson Parks drove in two runs a piece in the loss, while junior Landis Wilson paced the Trojans with two hits.

 

UALR and McNeese State close out the two-game series tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m.
