“I felt like we struggled in the first half and they were able to go where they wanted. We didn't apply very good ball pressure. We wanted to get in the situation, if we could, of being efficient on the offensive end and getting in our press,” said UALR head coach Steve Shields. “We hadn't pressed a whole lot but we didn't want to guard their offense for thirty or thirty-five seconds and I thought our guys did an excellent job getting some deflections in the second half.”
Rob Lewis hit three treys over the first 8:02 and scored DU's first 15 points to help the Pioneers run out to a 21-11 lead with 8:45 remaining. UALR led 11-10 at the 12:20 mark after a basket by freshman Courtney Jackson, but the Pioneers answered with an 11-0 run to take a 10-point lead. The Pioneers, meanwhile, converted 15-of-17 at the charity stripe (88.2 percent), but went just 7-of-18 from the field and 1-of-7 from three-point range in the second half.
