Box Score NEW ORLEANS, La. ? UALR junior Tim Emmons went 4-for-5 with two home runs and a career-high seven RBI on Sunday afternoon, but it wasn't enough for the Trojans as New Orleans (22-29, 12-15) picked up a 2-1 series win with a 15-14 victory at Maestri Field.
Trailing 15-13 in the top of the ninth, UALR (15-32, 6-19) pulled within a run when Emmons plated senior Kody Kroll with a two-out, RBI double. Senior Matt Apfel followed with a single to left, but Emmons was thrown out at the plate (7-2) to end the game as he tried to score from second.
Emmons enjoyed the first multi-homer performance of his career in the losing effort, hitting a three-run bomb in the fifth and a solo homer in the seventh to bring his season total to nine. Juniors Tyson Parks and Jack Larner also homered on Sunday, hitting back-to-back solo homers in the third.
UNO's Jerad Comarda went 4-for-4 with two homers and five RBI in the win, while Nick Schwaner added a 3-for-5 effort with four RBI and belted his 12th home run of the season in the fifth inning. Comarda plated the winning runs with a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh.
UALR plated two runs in each of the first two innings, but New Orleans manufactured nine runs in the bottom of the second to take an early 9-4 lead. The Trojans pushed across five runs in the third to tie the game at 9-all, and tied things up again in the seventh, 13-13, off Emmons' solo shot.
UNO reliever Randy Verdin pitched a scoreless inning of relief in the eighth, and David Burch closed out the game to earn his ninth save of the year ? despite allowing three hits and one run in the final frame.
Tyler Sanders (1-2) got the win for UNO after working the sixth and seventh innings, while UALR freshman Andrew Loe (0-2) took the loss after allowing eight hits and six runs over 4.2 innings of relief.
UALR closes out the regular season this week when it welcomes Arkansas State to Gary Hogan Field (May 14-16) for a three-game Sun Belt Conference series.
