ARLINGTON,
Texas—The UALR volleyball team split matches at the UT
Arlington Invitational Saturday winning 3-1 (25-16, 25-18, 23-25, 25-17) over
UT Arlington and losing 3-0 (16-25, 12-25, 24-26) to Oklahoma. The Trojans are now 5-3 on the season.
In the first match win over UTA, Anita Bucur recorded a career and season-high of 24 kills and 13
digs while also recording a .435 attack percentage. She recorded her first double-double of the
season.
Giuliana
De Francesco was three kills shy of a triple-double with
a team high of 55 assists, 13 digs, and seven kills, while Becky Mann knocked down 17 kills, and Katharina Nobel recorded 11 kills for the Trojans.
Emily
Pepperman led the team in digs with 15, and Daniele Souza Moura and Kehly
MacDuff each contributed ten digs.
The Trojans opened up the first set 4-0 on two kills by
Paige Gantar and Mann and two UTA
errors. UALR scored as many as eight
points and held the Mavericks to 16 winning the set of a kill by Gantar.
UALR recorded 20 kills in the first set on 31 attempts
and only two errors for a .581 attack percentage.
The second set opened with two ties until a kill by
Bucur sparked a four-point run to give the Trojans a 10-4 advantage.
The Trojans recorded 14 kills for the set, while UTA
recorded seven errors as a kill by Bucur won the set 25-18.
UTA jumped to an early lead in set three, before the
Trojans pushed points and tied the score three times.
The scored tied six more times with the Mavericks
holding the edge. With the score 24-22,
a kill by Bucur brought the Trojans within one, before a kill by Tara Frantz of
UTA won the third set.
In the final set, the Trojans came from a 8-6 deficit
to tie the score at 11 scoring four consecutive points.
The Trojans held the Mavericks to 17 points and won the
match on a UTA error.
In the second match against OU, Bucur lead the team in
kills with seven, while De Francesco recorded a double-double with team highs of
21 assists and 11 digs.
The Trojans recorded a .070 attack percentage for the
match recording 30 kills on 114 attempts with 22 errors.
OU jumped to early leads in both the first and second
set holding the Trojans to 16 points in the first and 13 points in the second.
In the third set, UALR pushed points and started with a
lead, before the Sooners tied the score.
With the score tied at 24, OU used a kill by Suzy
Boulavsky and a UALR attack error to win 26-24.
UALR continues volleyball action next weekend at the
Memphis Tiger Invitational.
