La.—The
UALR volleyball team opened Sun Belt Conference action Thursday with a 3-0
(27-25, 25-14, 25-13) victory over ULM.
The Trojans improve to 7-5 on the season and 1-0 in conference action.
Anita
Bucur led the team in kills with 12, while Katharina Nobel contributed ten
kills. Giuliana De Francesco recorded a team high of 38 assists.
Kehly
MacDuff led the team in digs with 15, while Emily Pepperman recorded 12 digs in the
win.
ULM (2-14, 0-2 SBC) opened the first set on a 4-0 run
including three kills and one Trojan attack error. UALR answered back with four points to tie
the score on three Warhawk errors and a service ace by Daniele Souza Moura.
The Warhawks scored five straight points, before a kill
by Nobel sparked a 3-0 run for the Trojans.
ULM held the advantage until the 20th point
when UALR tied the score on a kill by Becky
Mann. The score tied three more
times, before the Trojans recorded the final two points on ULM attack errors to
win the set 27-25.
The Trojans recorded 15 kills on 32 attempts and only
one error for a .438 attack percentage in the second set and started on a 3-0
run. After the Warhawks scored their
first point of the set, UALR recorded four consecutive points including two
kills by Bucur to extend their lead to 7-1.
UALR kept the advantage and held ULM to 14 points while
scoring the winning point on a kill by Kristi
Block to win the set.
The Trojans recorded their highest attack percentage in
the third set of .452 with 16 kills and only two errors.
After both teams opened the set with points, UALR
extended their lead to 5-1 on a kill by Nobel and three Warhawk errors. The Trojans pushed points holding as much as
a 22-9 advantage before holding ULM to 13 points and winning on a kill by
Block.
UALR continues conference action on Saturday as they
travel to New Orleans, La. to face the University of New Orleans. Match is set for 4 p.m.
