ORLEANS, La.—The UALR volleyball team lost the team's
second Sun Belt Conference match of the season 3-1 (24-26, 22-25, 25-19, 19-25)
to New Orleans Saturday. The Trojans
fall to 7-6 overall and 1-1 in conference action.
Anita
Bucur led the team in kills with 14, while Katharina Nobel contributed 13
kills. Paige Gantar tied her career-high of ten kills.
Giuliana
De Francesco recorded her second double-double of the
weekend with a team high of 43 assists and 14 digs. Emily
Pepperman recorded a team high of 15 digs.
UALR took a 2-0 lead in
set one on a kill by Becky Mann and
a New Orleans (9-5, 2-0) attack error.
After both teams exchanged points, the Privateers pushed points and tied
the score at four on a Trojan error.
The score tied ten times
with the lead changing hands. UALR tied
the score at 24 on a kill by Bucur, before UNO scored two points on a kill by
Lindsey Loyd and a UALR attack error to win the set.
The second set opened with
both teams exchanging points. With the
score tied at four, the Privateers recorded two points to take the lead.
UALR came within one
point, but UNO held the advantage and won the set 25-22 on a Trojan attack
error.
The Trojans scored their
highest attack percentage in set three recording 16 kills on 37 attempts and no
errors for a .432 attack percentage.
After a UALR service
error, the Trojans recorded three consecutive points on two kills by Nobel and
a kill by Mann to take the 3-1 lead.
The Trojans sustained the
team's advantage through the whole set holding the Privateers to 19 points and winning
on a three-point run with kills by Mann and Bucur and a Privateer ball handling
error.
UALR recorded their lowest
attack percentage in the fourth set with 12 kills on 35 attempts and eight
errors for a .114 attack percentage.
After both teams exchanged
points, UNO took a 3-1 lead on a UALR attack error. The Trojans pushed points tying the score at
five on a kill by Kristi Block.
The score tied at six,
before the Privateers regained the advantage and sustained it scoring as many
as five straight points. A kill by Maria
Szivos won the set 25-19 and the match for UNO.
UALR continues Sun Belt
action tomorrow as they travel to Louisiana-Lafayette. Match is set for 5 p.m.
