being down two sets, the UALR volleyball forced a fifth set after winning two
straight but lost at South Alabama 3-2 (20-25, 22-25, 25-16, 25-20, 15-17)
Friday. This is the first loss against
the Lady Jags since 1995. The Trojans
fall to 2-11 overall and 0-3 in Sun Belt Conference action.
Paige
Gantar led the team in kills knocking down 18, while Kristi Block recorded a double-double
with 12 kills and 13 digs. Eva Xie contributed 11 kills in the
loss.
Emily
Pepperman led the team in digs with 18, while Ty Lindberg recorded 12 digs.
In set one, UALR jumped to
a 2-0 lead on kills by Gantar. USA tied
the score six times, before the Trojans regained a 9-7 lead on kills by
Lindberg and Eva Xie.
With the score tied at 13,
the Lady Jags took a three-point lead on a kill and two Trojan errors. UALR came within two points, but South
Alabama won the set on a Trojan attack error 25-20.
UALR recorded the team's
lowest attack percentage in set two with a .065 percentage with ten kills on 31
attempts and eight errors.
The scored tied 15 times,
with the lead changing hands eight times.
With the score tied at 20, two kills by the Lady Jags gave them the
22-20 advantage.
USA held UALR to 22 points
and won the set on a kill.
Over the next two sets,
UALR held the Lady Jags to under .100 hitting percentage while recording the
team's highest mark in set three with a .343 percentage.
In set three, the score
tied only three times with UALR taking the lead and sustaining it mid-set.
The Trojans scored as many as five-straight points and won the set 25-16
on two kills by Gantar.
UALR took a 3-0 lead in
set four on two kills by Gantar and a USA error. The Lady Jags pushed points tying the score
seven times and changing the lead four.
With the score tied at 13,
a kill by Daniele Souza Moura sparked
a 3-0 run for the Trojans to take the advantage and sustain it. A Lady Jag attack error sealed the 25-20 set
win for UALR.
In set five, USA took the
2-0 lead, before a kill by Gantar put the first Trojan point on the board. After a South Alabama kill, UALR pushed
points to tie the score.
Both teams exchanged
points and leads. With the score tied at
14, a kill by Block gave the Trojans match point. A kill by the Lady Jags tied the score,
before an attack error by UALR gave USA the match point.
A kill by Olivia Mohler
gave South Alabama the 17-15 set win and match win.
UALR continues volleyball
action tomorrow as the Trojans travel to Troy, Ala. to face the Troy
Trojans. Match is set for 7 p.m.
