ROCK, Ark.—The UALR volleyball team lost 3-0 (18-25, 19-25, 10-25)
to FIU Friday at the Jack Stephens Center for the Dig Pink Match. The Trojans fall to 2-16 overall and 0-8 in
conference action.
Eva
Xie led
the Trojans with six kills, while Paige
Gantar and Kristi Block each had
five. Emily Pepperman tied her season-high with 20 digs, and Gina Guo recorded 11 digs in the loss.
The Trojans opened the
first set 1-0 on an FIU error. The score
tied seven times with the lead changing hands once. With the score seven all, the Panthers
recorded three-straight points including two UALR errors and a service ace to
extend the team's advantage.
FIU recorded as many as
four consecutive points and held the Trojans to 18 while winning the set on a
UALR service error.
Both teams exchanged
attack errors to begin set two, before a kill and UALR error gave FIU the lead.
The Trojans pushed points
tying the score at seven on a FIU error and taking the lead on a kill by Eva
Xie. The Panthers answered back tying
the score at eight on a kill by Una Trkulja that sparked a 5-0 run.
With the score 24-15 in
FIU's favor, UALR recorded four-straight points including a kill by Block and a
service ace by Gantar. FIU won the set
on a kill by Andrea Lakovic.
In set three, both teams
exchanged points, before FIU recorded five consecutive to take the 6-1
lead. The Panthers held the Trojans to
only ten points for the set and won on a Trojan bad set.
UALR continues conference
action on Sunday as the Trojans host Florida Atlantic. Match is set for 1 p.m. at the Jack Stephens
Center.
