DENVER,
Colo.—Despite winning the second set and pushing the forth
past 25 points, the UALR volleyball team lost a hard fought match at Denver 1-3
(19-25, 26-24, 14-25, 27-29) Friday. The
Trojans fall to 2-13 overall and 0-5 in conference action.
Freshman Jordan Erz led the Trojans with a
career-high 12 kills, while senior Jennifer
Elbert recorded a team high of 36 assists.
Sophomore Daniele Souza Moura led
the team in digs with 12, while sophomore Emily
Pepperman recorded ten digs.
UALR opened the first set
1-0 on a kill by Ty Lindberg. The score would tie six times and the lead
changed hands five times, before five straight points by Denver gave the
Pioneers a 12-8 advantage.
DU would score as many as
four points while holding the Trojans to 19 and winning the set on a kill.
The Trojans started the
second set with a kill by Erz, before Denver answered back with a kill to tie
the score.
The score would tie 12
more times throughout the set. With the
score tied at 24, DU recorded two attack errors for the 26-24 Trojans set win.
The third set opened with six-straight
points by the Pioneers including four-straight UALR attack errors. The Trojans never recovered recording only 14
points for the set.
In the fourth set, UALR
opened with a kill by Souza Moura.
Denver answered back with a kill.
The score tied two more times, before the Trojans regained a 6-4 lead on
a service ace by Souza Moura.
The Trojans maintained the
lead until the Pioneers pushed points tying the score at 19 and taking the lead
on a kill.
UALR held the 24-23 set
point advantage, until DU scored on a kill.
The score would tie three more times, before a UALR ball handling error
and a service ace gave Denver the 29-27 set and match win.
UALR continues volleyball
action Sunday as the team travels to Denton, Texas to face North Texas. Match is set for 1 p.m.
