ROCK, Ark.—The UALR volleyball team dropped a 3-1 (22-5, 25-23,
23-25, 18-25) contest to Arkansas State Tuesday at the Jack Stephens
Center. The Trojans drop to 5-19 overall
and 3-11 in Sun Belt Conference action.
Paige
Gantar led the team in kills with 15 and in attack percentage
with a .324 mark on 34 attempts and only four errors. Jennifer
Elbert almost completed a triple-double with a team-high of 38 assists and
with eight kills and nine digs.
Ty
Lindberg led the Trojans in digs with a career-high 21, while Emily Pepperman contributed 20 and Daniele Souza Moura 12 digs.
UALR opened the first set
3-0 on kills by Elbert and Gantar. After
an ASU kill, the Trojans recorded two more points on kills by Lindberg and
Souza Moura.
The Trojans held the
advantage through most of the set scoring as many as two-straight points. Arkansas State (15-11, 9-5 SBC) pushed points
tying the score at 16.
With the score tied at 22,
a kill by ASU followed by two UALR attack errors gave the Red Wolves the set
win.
A kill by Lindberg opened
the second set for UALR. ASU took the
lead, before a kill by Rinata Aisena sparked
an 8-0 run by the Trojans for the 10-5 advantage.
The Trojans maintained the
lead scoring as many as three-straight points while holding ASU to 23 and
winning the set on two Red Wolf attack errors.
In set three, the score
tied 13 times with the lead changing hands six.
ASU held the advantage through the majority of the set until a kill by
Gantar tied the score at 18.
The Trojans tied the score
four more times, before a UALR attack error gave the Red Wolves the set
point. The Trojans scored on a kill by
Souza Moura, before a kill by Sadie Clark won the set 25-23 for ASU.
Both teams exchanged
points in set four. With the score tied
at 14, back-to-back attack errors by the Trojans gave ASU the lead.
ASU held UALR to 18 points
and won on a kill.
UALR continues conference
action on Friday as the Trojans host Louisiana-Lafayette. Match is set for 4 p.m.
