ROCK, Ark.—The UALR volleyball team defeated Louisiana-Lafayette
in straight sets 3-0 (25-23, 25-18, 27-25) Friday at the Jack Stephens
Center. The Trojans improve to 6-19
overall and 4-11 in Sun Belt Conference action.
Paige
Gantar and Kristi Block
led the team in kills with nine, while Jennifer
Elbert led the team in assists with 31 and recorded a double-double with 11
digs.
Emily
Pepperman recorded a team-high of 17 digs, while Daniele Souza Moura contributed 14.
“I think we are a young team, and I think we
have grown,” said head coach Van Compton. “I think it has taken the whole season to
grow.”
Both teams exchanged
points in the first set, before Louisiana-Lafayette rattled off four-straight
points to take the 5-1 advantage.
UL held the lead
throughout the set, but the Trojans pushed points tying the score at 20 on a
Ragin' Cajun error. The score tied three
more times, before UALR scored two-straight points on a kill by Gantar and a UL
error to win the set.
UALR opened the second
half on a 2-0 run including a kill by Eva Xie.
After a kill by UL, the Trojans rattled off five-straight points.
The Trojans held the
Ragin' Cajuns to 18 points and won the set on a service error.
The Trojans opened the
third set 2-0 on a UL service error and service ace by Eva Xie. The score tied six times and the lead changed
four throughout the set.
With the score match point
24-23 in UALR's favor, a service ace by UL tied the score at 24. The score tied again, before a UL attack
error and a kill by Rinata Aisena.
UALR ends the 2010 season
tomorrow as they host ULM. Match is set
for 7 p.m. Senior Jennifer Elbert will
be honored.
