ROCK, Ark.—The UALR women's basketball team defeated Louisiana
Tech 59-55 Friday at the Jack Stephens Center.
The Trojans improve to 2-1 and extend the team's home winning streak to
13 games.
Chastity
Reed led
the team in points with 23, while Asriel
Rolfe recorded a double-double tying her career-high with 11 assists and
recording a season-high 11 points.
Hannah
Fohne recorded a career-high of ten points and a career and
team-high of eight rebounds, while Britteni
Williams also recorded eight boards in the win.
UALR
scored first on a steal by Shanika Butler
and two free throws by Rolfe, before a layup by Louisiana Tech tied the
score. A three-pointer by Janette Merriex sparked a 7-2 run by
the Trojans including four points by Fohne to give UALR the 9-4 advantage with
15:55 on the clock.
After
a jumper by Adrienne Johnson for La Tech, UALR scored ten straight points
including three-pointers by Rolfe and Fort to extend the lead to 19-6 with
13:15 until the half.
A
layup by Jasmine Bendolph sparked an 11-0 run by the Lady Techsters to cut the
Trojan lead to two at the 8:49 mark, until a layup by Marian Kursh broke the five minute drought.
Five-straight
points by La Tech gave the Lady Techsters the team's first lead by one. A three-point play by Rolfe followed by a
three by Merriex regained the 27-22 advantage, before four-straight points by
Adrienne Johnson put La Tech up one.
In
the remaining 48.8 until the half, both teams exchanged point with two coming
from Rolfe to give UALR the 29-28 half-time lead.
Both
teams exchanged points each scoring six to open the second half, with the
Trojans holding the 37-32 edge. Over the
next minute, each team knocked down four points with UALR's coming from Fohne
from Taylor Ford and Rolfe to give
the Trojans the 41-37 edge with 12:17 remaining.
After
a jumper by Reed, the Lady Techsters scored six straight points including a
three-point play by Johnson to tie the score at 43. Over the next two minutes, both teams knocked
down points including six from Reed with the lead changing twice.
After
a free throw by La Tech tied the score at 49, Reed knocked down a three-pointer
to give UALR the 52-49 edge with 3:00 left in the game. In the remaining 2:30, UALR outscored the
Lady Techsters seven to six to win 59-55.
UALR
continues action on Friday, November 26 as the Trojans compete against Bowling
Green at the Seattle U Thanksgiving Classic.
