UALR Loses 64-47 at Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn.—The UALR women's basketball team dropped the team's third-straight contest 64-47 at Memphis Saturday.  The Trojans fall to 3-5 overall for the season.

Shanika Butler and Marian Kursh each led the Trojans with 11 points, while Kursh also led the team in rebounds with six.

This is the third-straight game that the Trojans have committed more than 20 turnovers for the contest with 22.

Memphis won the tip and scored the first four points on layups.  The Trojans answered back at the 17:53 mark with back-to-back layups by Kursh to tie the score.

After a basket by the Tigers, a three-pointer by Nia Gregory followed by a layup by Kursh gave the Trojans the team's first lead 9-6 at the 13:05 mark.  Over the next three minutes, Memphis outscored UALR 9-2 to regain a 15-11 advantage with 9:57 until the half.

Both teams exchanged points, before five-straight points by Britteni Williams gave UALR the 20-19 lead at the 3:48 mark. A layup and missed three-point play by Jasmine Lee sparked am 11-1 run by Memphis limiting the Trojans to just one free throw by Butler and taking the 32-21 half-time lead.

Memphis opened the second half with a layup, before back-to-back jumpers by Merriex including off a steal by Butler brought the Tiger lead to 34-25 with 18:59 on the clock.

After a steal and layup by Ramses Lonlack, two free throws by Kursh followed by a layup and one by Butler cut the advantage to six with 16:49 remaining.  Memphis answered back with six-straight points including a three-pointer by Alex Winchell to stretch to a 42-30 advantage.

Hannah Fohne stopped a four minute scoring drought by the Trojans with a layup and sparked a 6-2 run to cut the Tiger lead to 44-36 at the 11:05 mark.  Over the next four minutes, Memphis outscored UALR seven to six to hold the nine point lead.

In the remaining 3:57, the Tigers scored 15 points while limiting the Trojans to layups and one field goal by Karisma Tyson to win 64-47.

UALR continues basketball action on Tuesday as the Trojans host Saint Mary's.  Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at the Jack Stephens Center.
