ROCK, Ark.—The UALR volleyball team opened the 2010 Sun Belt
Conference season with a loss 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-17) to Middle Tennessee
Friday at the Jack Stephens Center. The Trojans
fall to 2-9 overall and 0-1 in conference action.
Paige
Gantar and Eva Xie led
the team with seven kills apiece, while Daniele
Souza Moura and Kristi Block each
led the team with eight digs.
Middle Tennessee recorded
a .351 attack percentage in the first set and opened on a 4-0 run including two
kills by Staci Oladinni. UALR scored the
team's first point on a kill by Gantar.
The Blue Raiders
controlled the lead throughout the set.
With the score at set point for MT, the Trojans scored three-straight
points including kills by Eva Xie and Block to bring the score to 24-19.
MT won the set on a kill
by Izabela Kozon.
A kill by Souza Moura
opened the second set. After the Blue
Raiders tied the score, the Trojans recorded two-straight points on a kill by
Gantar and a bad set by MT.
UALR and Middle Tennessee
exchanged points and leads with the score tying seven times, before the Blue
Raiders took the two-point advantage. MT
held the Trojans to 18 points for the win.
In set three, the Blue
Raiders opened with a kill, before a MT service error tied the score. After Middle Tennessee regained the lead, the
Trojans pushed points tying the score twice on kills by Eva Xie and Gantar and
taking the lead on a Blue Raider error.
MT tied the score twice
before scoring three-straight points on two kills by Kozon and a UALR
error. With the score 23-15 in MT's
favor, UALR scored two points on a kill by Souza Moura and a MT error.
A UALR error and a kill by
the Blue Raiders won the set and match 25-17.
UALR continues conference
action tomorrow as the Trojans host Western Kentucky. Match is set for 2 p.m. at the Jack Stephens
Center.
