ARLINGTON,
Texas—The UALR volleyball team split matches at the final day
of the UT Arlington Maverick Classic on Saturday defeating Texas-Pan American
3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-20) and losing to Louisiana Tech 0-3 (17-25, 14-25, 20-25). The Trojans finish the weekend 1-6 overall.
In the win over Texas-Pan
American, Paige Gantar led the team
with 18 kills, while Eva Xie recorded
16 kills in the win. Daniele Souza Moura led the team in
digs with 11.
In the first set, the
Trojans came from behind to tie the score six times. With the score tied at 19, a service error by
UTPA sparked a 3-0 run by the Trojans including a kill by Gantar.
UTPA would only score two
more points as the Trojans won the set on a kill by Kristi Block.
UALR opened the second
half scoring on a kill by Gantar. Texas-Pan
American answered back tying the score on a kill.
Both teams exchanged leads
and tied the score. With the score tied
at 20 on a kill by Block, the Trojans took the lead on a service ace by Jennifer Elbert and sustained it. UALR scored the final three points winning
the set 25-21 on a kill by Eva Xie.
The Trojans recorded the
team's highest attack percentage in set three knocking down 14 kills on 37
attempts and six errors for a .216 percentage.
UTPA jumped to the 1-0
lead, before UALR tied the score on a kill by Gantar. Texas-Pan American tied the score twice, but
the Trojans regain the advantage on kills by Gantar and Eva Xie.
UALR maintained the lead
throughout the set scoring the final three points all on kills by Gantar and
winning the set and the team's first match 25-20.
In the first match against
Louisiana Tech, Gantar led the team
with 19 kills and a .421 attack percentage, while Elbert recorded her second double-double of the season with 29 assists
and a team-high 12 digs.
Emily
Pepperman also recorded a team-high of 12 digs, and Block recorded 11 digs.
The Trojans recorded the
team's lowest attack percentage in the first set recording 13 kills on 40
attempts and nine errors for .100 attack percentage.
UALR started the set with
a kill by Block, before Louisiana Tech tied the score. The score would tie three more times, then
the Lady Techsters scored eight-straight points to take the 12-3 lead.
The Trojans could not
recover scoring only 17 points, while Louisiana Tech scored the last four points
for the win.
In the second set, both
teams exchanged points with UALR scoring on a kill by Gantar, before LTU scored
five-straight points.
The Lady Techsters scored
as many as seven-straight points throughout the set including the final four
while holding the Trojans to 14 points.
UALR recorded the team's
highest attack percentage in set three at .163 and started the set with a kill
by Gantar.
After the score tied
twice, the Trojans took the four-point advantage including three kills by
Gantar.
The Trojans held the lead
for the majority of the set, until Louisiana Tech tied the score at 16 and took
the team's first lead 18-16.
LTU held UALR to 20 points
while winning the set and match on two Trojan errors.
UALR continues action next
weekend as the Trojans travel to Lawrence, Kan. to compete at the Kansas
Invitational. UALR faces Northern Iowa
at 10 a.m. and Winthrop at 5 a.m. on Friday, September 10. On Saturday, the Trojans face Kansas at 4
p.m.
