SPRINGFIELD,
Mo.—The
UALR women's basketball team dropped the team's fourth contest of the season as
the Trojans lost 73-50 at Missouri State Tuesday. The Trojans fall to 2-4 on
the season.
Marian
Kursh and Janette Merriex led the team in points with 13, while Kursh also led the team in rebounds with
eight. Megan Williams tied her
career-high with eight points, and Hannah
Fohne contributed seven points and six boards in the loss.
In
the first half, the Trojans gave up the most points all season to their
opponents while allowing five three-pointers by the Lady Bears.
UALR
opened the half with a layup by Megan Williams, before Missouri State answered
with ten straight points including eight from Jaleshia Robertson for the lead
at the 16:45 mark.
Gault
scored on a jumper and one for the Trojans, before a jumper by the Lady Bears
sparked a 6-0 run including four points off of UALR turnovers giving MSU the
16-5 edge with 14:35 until the half.
Over
the next three minutes, Missouri State outscored the Trojans 8-2 with UALR's
only field goal from Megan Williams for the 24-7 lead.
After
three points by UALR, the Lady Bears scored ten points to the Trojans' one
including two three-pointers to extend the advantage to 34-11 at the 7:13 mark.
Both
teams exchanged points, before a layup by Fohne from Kursh with 3:48 until the
half cut the MSU lead to 40-21.
In
the remaining 2:54, the Lady Bears held the Trojans scoreless while knocking
down six points to bring the half-time lead to 46-21.
Missouri
State opened the second half on a 6-1 run with UALR's only point coming from a
free throw by Kursh. The Trojans scored the team's first field goal at the 16:07 mark on a layup by Kursh sparking an 11-0 run including back-to- back
layups by Megan Williams to cut the Lady Bear lead to 52-33.
Over
the next three and a half minutes, UALR outscored MSU eight to four including
back-to-back three-pointer by Merriex
to bring the Lady Bear advantage to 56-41 with 6:59 remaining.
After
free throws by MSU, a layup and one by Kursh and a jumper by Taylor Ford cut the Lady Bear lead to
59-46 with 4:54 on the clock.
In
the remaining 4:41, Missouri State outscored UALR 14-4 with the Trojans' points
coming from a three-pointer by Merriex and a free throw by Fohne as the Lady
Bears win 73-50.
UALR
continues non-conference action on Saturday as the Trojans host Southern Miss.
