Colo.—The UALR volleyball team lost the Trojans
second-straight Sun Belt Conference match Friday at Denver 1-3 (22-25, 19-25,
25-20, 15-25). The Trojans drop to 10-17 overall and 5-8 in Sun Belt action.
Edina
Begic led the team in kills with 14, while Emily Pepperman led the team in digs
with 11. Kristi Block recorded six
kills and a team high four blocks for the match.
Both teams exchanged
points in set one, before a UALR service error sparked a 3-0 run for Denver. UALR
pushed points tying the score at six on a kill by Eva Xie.
The score tied seven more
times with back-to-back Pioneer errors giving UALR the 16-14 advantage.
The Trojans extended the
team's lead to three, but DU pushed points tying the score at 21 on a kill and
knocking down three more points including back-to-back service aces for the
24-21 advantage.
After a DU service error
gave UALR a point, the Pioneers won the set on a kill.
Denver opened the second
set on a 5-0 run, before UALR scored the Trojans first point on a kill by Xie.
The Pioneers maintained
the lead throughout the set, but the Trojans pushed points tying the score at
17 on a DU attack error. Denver answered back with three straight points
including a UALR attack error.
DU held the Trojans to 19
points scoring the remaining three for the set win.
UALR opened set three on a
3-0 run on a kill by Begic and back-to-back DU attack errors.
After a Pioneer point, the
Trojans ratted off three-straight points on kills by Begic and Block and a DU
error.
With the score 20-17 in
UALR's favor, three-straight Pioneers attack errors widened the Trojans lead.
UALR held Denver to 20
points, as the Trojans scored the final two points of the set on a DU error and
a kill by Begic.
In set four, the Pioneers
opened the set on a 3-0 run, before the Trojans scored the team's first point
on a kill by Adisa Hodzic.
The Trojans never
recovered scoring just 15 points and losing the set and match on a Pioneer
kill.

Conference action on Sunday as the Trojans travel to Denton, Texas to face North
