LITTLE
ROCK, Ark.—Despite coming with one point in the second half, the
UALR women's basketball team committed 22 turnovers for the game as the Trojans
lost the team's second-straight contest 81-66 to Memphis Saturday at The Jack
Stephens Center. The Trojans fall to 3-6 overall.
Taylor
Gault led the team points with 22, while Ka'Nesheia Cobbins recorded a career-high of 15 points. Megan Williams led the team in rebounds
with nine and added eight points.
Memphis (8-1) had four
players to score in double-figures with Nicole Dickson leading the team with 22
points.
Both
teams opened the first half with baskets with UALR's coming at the 19:12 mark
on a jumper by Gault. With 14:52 on the clock, Memphis scored four-straight
points including a steal and fast break layup by Jasmine Lee for the 10-5 lead.
The
Trojans scored the team's first field goal in three minutes at the 15:13 mark
on a jumper by Marian Kursh, before
the Tigers scored seven-straight points to maintain a 17-7 edge.
Over
the next two minutes, UALR outscored Memphis six to three including a layup and
one by Cobbins. Memphis answered back scoring ten straight points to bring the
Tigers lead to 29-13 with 4:58 until the half.
Both
teams exchanged points, before a steal and fast break layup by Cobbins sparked
a 6-1 run for UALR to end the half with Memphis leading 36-27.
UALR
opened the second half on a 10-4 run including six from Gault to narrow the
Memphis lead to 40-37 with 16:29 remaining. The Tigers answered back over the
next three minutes with an 11-2 run to stretch the advantage to 51-39.
Cobbins
sparked an 11-2 with seven-straight points to close the Tiger lead to 53-50
with 9:54 on the clock. After both teams scored, the Trojans outscored Memphis five
to four to bring the score to 61-60 in the Tigers favor with 5:44 remaining.
Memphis
held the Trojans scoreless over the next four minutes including knocking down
12 including a three-pointer by Brittany Carter to stretch the Tigers lead to
73-59 at the 3:19 mark.
In
the remaining 2:52, Memphis scored eight points to UALR's seven as the Tigers
won 81-66.
UALR
continues non-conference action on Tuesday as the Trojans travel to Tulsa,
Okla. to face Oral Roberts. Tip-off is set for 7:05 p.m.
