MEMPHIS,
Tenn.—The UALR volleyball team completed the final day of the
Memphis Invitational splitting matches including recording the team's first
sweep against SEMO 3-0 (25-23, 25-14, 25-21) and losing against Memphis 1-3
(18-25, 14-25, 25-23, 15-25). Freshman Edina Begic earned All-Tournament Team
honors.
In the first match against
Memphis, senior Kristi Block led the
team in kills with ten and attack percentage with a .333 mark on 21 attempts
and only three errors. She also recorded
a team high of six total blocks.
Daniele
Souza Moura led the team in digs with nine.
The Trojans scored 18
points and recorded a .179 attack percentage in the first set and 14 points and
a .000 attack percentage in set two.
In set three, UALR took a
3-0 lead on an attack error and kills by Paige
Gantar and Alexis Hein. The Trojans sustained the lead, but Memphis
pushed points tying the score at ten and taking the lead with five-straight
points.
UALR bounced back tying
the score at 17 on a Tiger attack error and regained the lead on kills by Hein
and Begic. The Trojans sustained the
lead even with Memphis coming within one points and won on an attack error by
the Tigers.
In the final set, UALR
jumped to a 3-1 lead, before Memphis pushed points tying the score and taking
the lead. The lead changed hands four
times, before the Tigers gained the 9-8 advantage.
After both teams exchanged
points, Memphis recorded five-straight points to take the lead and sustain
it. The Tigers won the set and match
25-15 on a UALR attack error.
In the sweep of SEMO,
Gantar led the team in kills with 17 and attack percentage with three errors on
25 attempts for a .560 mark. She also
had a team high of four total blocks.
Begic recorded 13 kills on
25 attempts and only one error for a .480 and led the team in digs with 12
recording her third career double-double.
Emily Pepperman recorded ten
digs in the win.
For the entire match, UALR
recorded only 13 errors including just two in the second set in which the
Trojans recorded a .452 attack percentage on 16 kills and 31 attempts.
In the first two sets, the
Trojans forced 14 errors as SEMO recorded a .162 attack percentage in set one
and a .061 percentage in set two.
The lead changed hands and
the scored tied several times throughout set one. With the score tied at 23, a kill by Adisa Hodzic and a SEMO attack error
gave the Trojans the set.
In set two, both teams
exchanged points, before a kill by Eva
Xie sparked a three point run by UALR to take the lead and sustain it.
The Trojans held SEMO to
14 points and scored the final eight including the winning point on a kill by
Gantar.
UALR jumped to a 2-0 lead
in set three on a kill by Hodzic and a SEMO setting error. SEMO pushed points taking the lead by as many
as five.
The Trojans answered back tying
the score at 16 and 20 before scoring on kills by Gantar and Hodzic to take the
lead. UALR won on a SEMO service error.

Friday, September 2 at the New Mexico State Tournament. The Trojans face LSU at 12:30 p.m. and New
Mexico State at 7 p.m. The Trojans face
