NORMAN,
Okla.—The UALR volleyball team snapped a three-match losing
streak with a 3-0 (25-7, 25-9, 25-9) win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff before losing
to No. 22 Oklahoma 0-3 (19-25, 16-25, 18-25) at the first day of the Oklahoma
Invitational Friday. The Trojans are now
4-8 overall.
Against UAPB, Edina Begic led the team in kills with
ten and in attack percentage with a .667 mark with no errors on 15 attempts,
while Marleen de Zoete recorded a
team-high of 24 assists and three service aces.
Emily
Pepperman led the team in digs with 14, and Eva Xie led the team in blocks with five.
The Trojans held the lead
all three sets, while the Lions totaled just 25 points in the three sets.
UALR opened set one on a
5-0 run including four UAPB attack errors and one kill by Alexis Hein. After a kill by
the Lions, the Trojans scored three more points on a kill by Paige Gantar and two attack errors for
the 8-1 advantage.
The Trojans held UAPB to
seven points with the Lions scored three straight attack errors to end the set.
Two UAPB attack errors
gave UALR the 2-0 lead in set two. The
Trojans scored as many as nine straight points while holding the Lions to nine
and winning the set on two kills by Begic and a kill by de Zoete.
UALR recorded the team's
highest attack percentage in set three recording 14 kills on 23 attempts and
only one error for a .565 mark.
The Trojans started the
set on a 6-0 run on kills by Xie, two UAPB attack errors, and two service aces
by de Zoete.
UAPB scored just nine
points in set three as the Trojans won the set and match on a kill by Hein and
a Lion bad set.
Against No. 22 Oklahoma,
Begic led the team in kills with nine, while Gantar and Hein each contributed
seven kills. Pepperman led the team in
digs with nine.
The score tied five times
in the first set as the Sooners jumped to a 3-1 lead with the Trojans point
coming from a kill by Gantar.
With the score tied at 15,
OU scored four straight points to take the lead and sustain it. The Trojans scored 19 points with OU winning
on two straight kills.
A service ace by de Zoete
opened the second set, before Oklahoma recorded eight consecutive points
including four UALR attack errors for the 8-1 advantage.
The Trojans never
recovered scoring 16 points as the Sooners recorded the last two on a UALR
service error and a kill.
Kills by Hein and Xie
opened the third set for the Trojans, before a service error gave OU the team's
first point.
The Trojans regained a
lead on a kill by Hein, before the Sooners regained the advantage on kill and a
UALR attack error.
UALR scored 18 points with
OU winning the set and match on a Trojan attack error.
UALR continues action tomorrow
at the Oklahoma Invitational. The
Trojans face Texas Southern at 10 a.m. and Boise State at 2 p.m.
