Ark.—Despite
taking the first set, the UALR volleyball team dropped the team's
third-straight conference match Tuesday at in-state rivals Arkansas State 1-3
(25-17, 20-25, 17-25, 17-25). The Trojans fall to 5-12 overall and 0-3 in Sun
Belt Conference action.
Paige
Gantar led the team in kills with 12, while Edina Begic recorded ten kills on 17
attempts and only two errors for a team high .471 attack percentage. She also
recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 11 digs.
Emily
Pepperman led the team in digs with 12, and Kristi Block recorded a team-high seven total blocks.
UALR recorded the team's
highest attack percentage in set one recording 16 kills on 23 attempts with no
errors and a .696 mark.
The Trojans opened the set
with a point on a Red Wolf attack error, before Arkansas State (11-6, 2-1 Sun
Belt) recorded two-straight points for the lead.
The score tied four more
times, before a kill by Gantar sparked a 3-0 run giving UALR the lead.
UALR scored as many as seven-straight
points holding the Red Wolves to 17 and winning on a kill by Alexis Hein.
ASU opened the second set
on a 3-0 run on two kills and a service ace. The Trojans scored the team's
first point on a kill by Eva Xie.
The Trojans pushed points
tying the score at 15 on a Red Wolf attack error. Two-straight points on a kill
and UALR attack error regained the advantage for ASU.
UALR scored 20 points in
the set as the Red Wolves won on a Trojan attack error.
In the third set, the Trojans
opened on a 2-0 run on a kill by Gantar and an ASU attack error, before a
service ace by the Red Wolves gave the home team their first point.
ASU took a 5-2 lead on
four-straight UALR errors, but the Trojans pushed points tying the score at
five on a Red Wolf attack error.
UALR regained the edge on
another ASU error, before a kill by the Red Wolves tied the score. The score
changed hands twice and the scored tied four more times.
With the score tied at 11,
ASU scored four-straight points to regain the lead. UALR scored just 17 points
as the Red Wolves recorded the final four points in the set win.
In set four, both teams
exchanged points to open the set as the score tied 11 times and the lead
changed hands seven.
With the score tied at 15,
a kill by Gantar gave UALR the edge. ASU pushed points recording nine-straight
for the 24-16 lead.
After an ASU service
error, a UALR attack error gave the Red Wolves the set and match win.
UALR opens home conference
action on Friday as the Trojans host Troy.
Match is set for 7 p.m. at The Jack Stephens Center.
