LITTLE
ROCK, Ark.—The UALR women's basketball team came back from a
14-point deficit to defeat ULM 52-46 Saturday at The Jack Stephens Center. The
Trojans improve to 12-11 overall and 7-3 in Sun Belt Conference action.
“I don't know if it was
good or bad,” said head coach Joe Foley. “I felt good about the comeback, but I felt
bad about how we played the first half. I don't think we really got into a good
offensive flow. Our defensive held out enough tonight for us to at least get a
W. We have got to get a lot better.”
Taylor
Gault led the team in points scoring 19, while Marian Kursh and Taylor Ford each contributed nine points. Kursh also led the team
in rebounds with 11.
ULM
opened the first half on a 4-0 run, before a jumper by Ford gave the Trojans
the team's first field goal at the 16:11 mark. Both teams exchanged points with
UALR's coming from a layup by Kursh, before the Warhawks scored five-straight
points for the 12-4 lead.
The
Trojans scored the team's first field goal in five minutes on a jumper by
Gault. After a three-pointer by ULM, both teams knocked down baskets, before
three free throws by Kursh cut the ULM lead to 17-10 with 5:47 until the half.
ULM
answered back with five-straight points from Larrie Williams and free throws by
Shantrell Pierson to gain ULM's largest lead of 24-10 at the 3:47 mark.
With
3:26 remaining until the half, a jumper by Gault sparked an 11-0 run by the
Trojans including five-straight points from Ford to cut the Warhawk lead to
24-21.
ULM
knocked down a layup with 22.3 on the clock to bring the half-time score to
26-21 in the Warhawk's favor.
The
Trojans opened the second half with a jumper by Gault, before ULM answered with
back-to-back layups to maintain a 30-23 edge. Both teams exchanged, before a
jumper by Kiera Clark sparked a 6-0
run to put UALR within one with 13:40 left.
Gault
knocked down a jumper with 10:46 on the clock to give UALR the team's first
lead of the game at 36-35. After two free throws by ULM, the Trojans scored
six-straight points to regain a 42-37 lead.
Over
the next four minutes, UALR outscored the Warhawks 7-3 including a three-pointer
by Janette Merriex to take the
Trojans greatest lead of 49-40 at the 4:01 mark.
ULM
etched into the advantage scoring three-straight points, before the Trojans scored
three-straight on free throws by Gault. A last second three-pointer by Elizabeth
Torres brought UALR's win to 52-46.
UALR
continues conference action on Wednesday as the Trojans travel to
Louisiana-Lafayette. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
