Box Score BOONE, N.C. -- After getting its third conference win of the season against Georgia State on Friday night, UALR continued its winning ways by knocking off Appalachian State in four sets (16-25, 25-15, 25-22, 25-11) Sunday to remain to improve to 4-0 in the Sun Belt Conference and 10-4 overall. The Trojans' winning streak is now at five games.
Senior Edina Begic recorded her 50th career double-double with 17 kills and 11 digs, while junior Sonja Milanovic racked up one of her own with 15 kills and 15 digs. Milanovic also added six assisted blocks, her highest total of the season.
With Sunday afternoon's win, head coach Van Compton now has 200 Sun Belt victories.
UALR's most dominant performance of the night came in the fourth set as the Trojans would lead from the wire. UALR scored seven straight points to push the lead to 20-7 with four of the seven points coming off Appalachian State attack errors. The Trojans hit a stellar .394 during the frame.
The closest set of the night was the third. The Trojans and Mountaineers traded blows until both teams tied the match at 22. UALR would then get a kill by junior Edina Selimovic and two attack errors by Appalachian State to steal the set.
UALR started to take over the contest in the second set as it started the frame on a 10-5 run before Appalachian State took its first timeout. The Trojans got out to their largest lead of the frame at 23-13 before taking the set. Milanovic led the Trojans with five kills and four digs. UALR hit .440 for its best hitting performance of the night.
The first set started out close with the set tied at 7-7, but the Trojans would see some difficulties as Appalachian State went on a 12-5 run before UALR took its final timeout of the frame. The Mountaineers would go on to win their only set of the afternoon.
Sophomore Megan Mathis recorded her second-highest assist total of the season with 42 and recorded her eighth game of the season with at least 30 assists.
Selimovic would add eight kills and lead the team with 10 assisted blocks, her highest of the season and career in both categories.
Senior libero Capri Rino added 12 digs and continues to lead the team with 150 this season.
The Mountaineers helped out the Trojans by giving up 32 points on attack errors. UALR hit .278 to Appalachian State's .106.
As a team, UALR out-blocked Appalachian State by a margin of 14-2. The Trojans totaled 26 assisted blocks to the Mountaineers' four.
UALR returns home to face UT Arlington on Friday (Oct. 3) at 7 p.m. inside the Jack Stephens Center.
