Little Rock Adds Florida State Transfer Watkins

LITTLE ROCK – Head coach Chris Beard has announced the addition of 6-0 guard Dayshawn Watkins, a 2013 graduate of North Little Rock High School who played the 2014-15 season as a sophomore at Florida State. Watkins will sit out the 2015-16 season per NCAA rules.
 
Watkins appeared in 22 games while averaging 1.3 points and 1.0 rebounds in his lone season at Florida State. He posted season highs with seven points and eight rebounds in FSU's win over Charleston Southern on Nov. 28.
 
Watkins attended Holmes Community College as a freshman in 2013-14, averaging 13.0 points, 4.8 assists and 1.6 steals in 19 games. He scored in double figures 13 times on the season, including a season-high 25 points vs. Coahoma Community College.
 
He posted eight multi-steal games on the year. Watkins handed out five or more assists nine times on the year, including back-to-back games of 11 and 10 assists vs. Baton Rouge and Northeast Mississippi, respectively. He finished the season shooting 40.9 percent from the floor and 76.3 percent from the foul line.
 
Watkins graduated from North Little Rock High School in 2013, where he averaged 16.2 points and 5.8 assists en route to being named First Team All-State as a senior. He led the Charging Wildcats to the 2013 Arkansas 7A State Championship as the team compiled a 28-1 record and No. 25 national ranking.
 
He totaled 17 points, five assists and two steals in North Little Rock's 64-52 win over Fayetteville High School in the championship game. He was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2013 Arkansas High School Coaches Association All-Star Game after scoring a game-high 18 points.
 
Watkins played his AAU basketball for the Arkansas Wings, which won an AAU National Championship following his junior season.
