LITTLE ROCK – The Trojan soccer team recovered from a very early deficit and went on to beat Kansas State 2-1 at the Coleman Sports & Recreation Complex on Sunday afternoon.
Â
The Wildcats' Haley Sutter scored a goal just 63 seconds into the game off a Trojan defensive miscue, but the Trojans (5-3) got the tying goal from
Jaclyn Purvine 27 minutes later and the game-winner from
Harrison Hayworth in the 79th minute.
Â
Purvine's goal came off a scramble in the box. A loose ball popped out to
Caitlyn Eddy, and she redirected the ball back toward the center of the box where Purvine was waiting to strike. The goal was her team-leading third of the year.
Â
Hayworth got the game-winner with 11 minutes remaining, picking up a loose ball near the top of the box after a Kansas State defender deflected it into that area. With no one in front of her, Hayworth beat Wildcats keeper Miranda Larkin to lead the Trojans to victory.
Â
Sara Small earned her third win of the season, making two saves. Little Rock outshot Kansas State 13-5 overall and had a 7-3 edge in shots on goal.
Â
The Trojans are set to begin Sun Belt Conference play next weekend, starting with a trip to San Marcos, Texas, on Friday. Little Rock and Texas State will kick off at 7 p.m.
