Little Rock Drops 3-0 Decision at Austin Peay

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Three second half goals by Austin Peay was too much for Little Rock to match as the Trojans dropped a 3-0 decision to the Governers Sunday afternoon.

Scoreless through the first 50 minutes, Austin Peay notched goals in the 50th, 69th and 84th minute to put the game out of reach. The tally included a pair of goals from the Governors' Kristin Robertson, who finished with six total shots on the day.

The result came in spite of the fact that Little Rock outshot Austin Peay 18-16, including a 12-8 advantage in the second half. Quin Wilkes led the way with seven total shots, including a pair on goal, with Jaclyn Purvine adding five shots and Arola Aparicio Gili putting three shots on goal on the afternoon.

Little Rock also held a significant 11-4 edge in corner kicks but were unable to convert on its opportunities. Goalkeeper Megan Swanson finished the day with four saves.

After an even draw in the first half, Austin Peay came out the aggressor in the second half, notching its first goal at the 49:14 mark and outshooting the Trojans 4-2 during that span. Little Rock began to apply pressure of its own, outshooting the Governors 7-1 during a 12-minute run midway through the second half, but Austin Peay's lone shot during that span resulted in its second goal of the afternoon.

Trailing 3-0, Little Rock had one final chance to put a dent into the lead in the 87th minute when Wilkes was awarded a penalty shot, but her shot was turned away, preserving the shutout win for the host Govenors. Goalkeeper Mary Park Powell finished with five saves for Austin Peay.

Little Rock now looks to right the ship with a heavy dose of home cooking, playing five of its next six matches at the Coleman Sports Complex. That stretch starts Tuesday, September 12, when the Trojans welcome Arkansas-Pine Bluff to Little Rock, getting underway at 7 p.m.
