Trojans Ground Owls 61-38 in Home Opener

LITTLE ROCK – The Little Rock women's basketball team (2-0, 0-0) grounded the FAU Owls (0-3, 0-0) 61-38 Wednesday night in the Trojans' home opener Wednesday night. Ronjanae DeGray led all scorers with 17 points and was helped out with 14 points from Yanina Inkina.
 
The Trojans got off to a slow start, not hitting its first bucket until 7:23 of the first quarter, but found a quick rhythm, jumping out to a 10-2 lead halfway through the first quarter. The teams would jockey back and forth for the rest of the frame, the Owls clawing within five points numerous times, but Little Rock would distance themselves in the second quarter and go up 17 at the half.
 
Little Rock grinded FAU to a halt to begin the second half, not letting the Owls score its first points of the half until the clock read 6:34 in the third quarter. Despite the hold, the Owls would start to dig themselves out of a deficit, coming within eight at 40-32. The Trojans would kick themselves into gear late in the fourth, going on an 11-0 run, and would wrap the game being ahead by 23.
 
DeGray and Sydney Chastain led the effort on the glass for the home team, both ending with a game-high six boards, and Chastain would lead the game with four assists. DeGray, Chastain and Kyra Collier had the game's quickest hands and the trio walked away with three steals each. Chastain registered a career-high five points and her three steals were the first of her collegiate career.
