Little Rock Closes Out Non-Conference Schedule, 2019 at No. 15 Mississippi State

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Little Rock will wrap up its non-conference schedule and close out the 2019 calendar year Sunday when the Trojans play at No. 15/15 Mississippi State. The game marks the second straight and fourth overall this season against a Southeastern Conference opponent.

Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. at "The Hump" in Starkville with Trey Schaap calling the action on the Little Rock Trojans Radio Network (Flagship: 920AM The Sports Animal). Charlie Winfield and Bart Gregory will call the action on SECN+ and the ESPN app.

Series History
  • This will be the 11th meeting between the Trojans and the Bulldogs in a series that dates back to 1983. The 2019 installment will mark the fourth consecutive year of the teams facing each other.
  • Little Rock is still looking to break through in a series that has gone Mississippi State's way in the previous 10 meetings.
  • A perennial power, this is the fourth meeting in the series where the Bulldogs are nationally ranked.
  • Mississippi State leads, 10-0
  • Last game: MSU won, 98-63, on 11/28/2018 in Little Rock, Ark.
  • Streak: Lost 10

Five Things to Know
  1. Auld Lang SEC
As the 2019 calendar year comes to a close, Little Rock will wrap up the year facing a Southeastern Conference opponent for the second straight game and fourth time this season.
  2. Collier on the Verge of Two Milestones
Little Rock senior Kyra Collier is on the verge of two notable milestones as Little Rock resumes action this week. The North Little Rock native needs just 49 points to reach 1,000 career points and 16 rebounds to hit the 500 rebound plateau. If, or rather when, she hits both, she will be the eighth player in program history to achieve such a feat.
  3. Cool Hand Syd
If you think Sydney Chastain is making a positive impact on the court, you aren't wrong. The Trojan senior enters this game ranking 11th in the nation with a 2.92 assist-to-turnover ratio, a mark that leads the Sun Belt and is the third-highest ranking stat of any non-power conference player in the country.
  4. Who's Next?
That might be the concerning question for coaches facing Little Rock this year. Take the Trojan's Dec. 21 game against No. 21/20 Arkansas, for example. Angelique Francis and Skyla Knight took control of the game for the Trojans with career highs in both points, rebounds and minutes played. With six freshmen on the roster and a squad that is battling injuries, any Little Rock player could be the next to record a breakout game.
  5. Consistent Force
If you think you're seeing a lot of Kyra Collier - and that's a thought that should trouble Little Rock opponents - then you are not wrong. Not only has she played the full 40 minutes in several games this season, she enters this week's action leading the Sun Belt and ranking eighth nationally in minutes played per game (38.30).
