Trojans Record Three Wins, School Record at Saluki Fast Start

CARBONDALE, Ill. – Little Rock Track and Field recorded three event wins and set a new school record in the pole vault as the 2019-20 indoor season got underway at the Saluki Fast Start in Carbondale Saturday.

In all, Little Rock recorded 16 top-three finishes in the season-opening meet.

Tricia Pierce now sits atop the Little Rock record book with a 10-8 (3.25m) mark in the pole vault, finishing sixth in the competition. Meanwhile teammate Lauren Hurrell vaulted 10-4 (3.15m) to finish ninth overall, a mark that ranks third in school history.

The school's top-10 charts were edited when Elijah Wright ran 48.77 to win the 400m. His mark ranks eighth in school history. Phillip Anderson ran 51.14 to finish fourth in the race while Teylen Patterson's 53.01 placed him eighth.

Colby Swecker also claimed a win, running 1:55.80 in the 800m and edging Saint Louis's Jon Schaefer by just 0.12 seconds. Ricardo Banks closely followed, running 1:56.22 to finish third.

The women also were able to look back at the competition as Ariana Garcia ran 2:20.16 to win the 800m run. Vianney Sanchez nearly claimed a win as well as her 01:50.38 time in the 3,000m run placed her second.

Perhaps no one came as close as Troy McKnight in striving for a first-place finish as his 60m dash time of 6.91 in the finals was barely edged out by Southern Illinois's Devin Pringle with a time of 6.88. McKnight's time of 6.91 does rank eighth in school history.

More top-10 charts were rewritten in the women's jumps with Sydney Miller's 4-11.75 (1.52m) mark in the pole vault ranking 10th in school history while her 32-2.75 (9.82m) triple jump mark ranking her sixth in school history. Teammate Breya Clark registered the second-best triple jump in school history with a mark of 36-9 (11.20m) Saturday. Shelby Dunlap jumped 31-2 (9.50m) in the triple jump to record the ninth-best jump in school history.

Little Rock will now take a break for finals and return to action in the new year. The Trojans next head to Fayetteville for the Arkansas Invitational on Friday, Jan. 17, 2020.
