Fidel Throws Gem but Offense Sputters Against Demons

Box Score NATCHITOCHES, La.- Chandler Fidel was absolutely brilliant Friday night at Northwestern State, but the Trojans couldn't give him any run support as they fell 1-0 to the Demons.

Fidel threw 121 pitches on the night and recorded eight innings without allowing an earned run. The junior only surrendered four hits and punched out six batters in his outing.

Garrett Scott notched three hits including a double, as he was the only source of offense for Little Rock. The rest of the Trojan hitters were 0-for-26 on the night.

After a scoreless first inning, the Trojans found themselves in some trouble when the Demons loaded the bases with one out in the second inning. Christian Reyes snagged a line drive and doubled off the runner on first base to get Little Rock out of the jam.

It took until the fourth inning for the Trojans to break up the perfect game when Scott slapped a base hit to center field.

The teams would go scoreless for the first six frames of the game as both Fidel and Northwestern State starter Ridge Heisler were nothing short of outstanding in their outings on the mound.

However, the Trojans could not seem to get the bats going as Scott's hit in the fourth inning was the team's only base runner through six innings.

The second Little Rock hit also came from Scott, his double down the right field line in the seventh inning was the only the second baserunner of the game for the Trojans. Trace Jordan followed by drawing a walk to continue the rally, but both runners were left stranded.

Fidel pitched around the third Trojan error of the night in the bottom half of the seventh and struck out the final hitter of the inning to make it seven scoreless innings.

Riley Pittman entered the game as a pinch hitter in the eighth inning and worked a walk to begin the inning and forced the Demons to pull Heisler from the game. Unfortunately, Little Rock was unable to capitalize and left him stranded.

Errors proved to be the downfall for the Trojans as a failed pick off attempted followed by an errant throw to third base resulted in the first run of the game and the Demons took the lead.

Scott picked up his third hit of the night in the final frame but it wasn't enough as Little Rock fell 1-0 to Northwestern State.

The series will conclude tomorrow when Little Rock and Northwestern State square off in a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.
