BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Following a dominant outing on the mound, Little Rock junior right-hander
Brannon Westmoreland has been named Ohio Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Monday morning.
Westmoreland delivered a statement performance in Friday night's 2-0 win at Lindenwood, tossing a complete-game shutout to lead the Trojans to a key road victory.
"Brannon has been the model of consistency for our team," Little Rock head coach
Chris Curry said. "He is a big reason we are in first place right now with just three weeks to go.
"His work ethic and routine is the best, and that is why he will pitch for a long time."
The Haskell, Okla., native was electric from the first pitch, working all nine innings while allowing just six hits and five walks, striking out five and holding the Lions scoreless throughout. He needed just 108 pitches to secure the win, improving to 1-0 on the week with a 0.00 ERA across 9.0 innings.
In a scoreless game through four innings, Westmoreland kept Lindenwood in check and gave Little Rock the opportunity to break through offensively, making the early runs stand up the rest of the way.
"It is a super cool honor," Westmoreland said. "To be recognized for having a good game. It is set up if I do my job, if I do what helps the team win, OVC Pitcher of the Week is an add-on."
For the season, Westmoreland continues to be a steady presence on the mound, combining command and composure to deliver in key moments.
Little Rock returns to action at 6 p.m. Tuesday at rival Arkansas State. The Trojans then host Morehead State in an OVC series this weekend, beginning with a 6 p.m. first pitch Friday at Gary Hogan Field.
