LITTLE ROCK- The Trojans will head up I-40 to take on in-state rival Central Arkansas Tuesday March 12 at 6 p.m.
Little Rock is currently 4-12 after a series split with South Dakota State over the weekend. The Trojans started strong with a 7-6 win in the series opener. The Jackrabbits took the first game of the doubleheader on Saturday, but Little Rock responded well to secure the nightcap. However, South Dakota State was able to even up the series in the finale by grabbing an 8-6 win despite a ninth-inning surge from the hosts.
Early Season Power
Ryan Benavidez has blasted five home runs in the first 16 games of the season. This matches the senior's final home run total in 2018. Benavidez has been hitting at a .362 clip with 10 RBI and 11 extra-base hits.
Scouting Central Arkansas
Southland Conference opponent Central Arkansas comes into Tuesday's contest with a 6-10 record in their first 16 games. The Bears have won two of their last three games and are coming off a series win against Southeastern Louisiana. The Bears have struggled at the plate thus far, only posting a .222 team batting average with six home runs. Beau Orlando and Jay Anderson are the only Bears above the .300 mark. Their pitching staff has been fairly solid to this point, registering a respectable 4.49 team ERA. Cody Davenport has been stellar on the mound, recording a 1.50 ERA in 24.0 innings pitched.
Conference Play Begins
After this midweek matchup, the Trojans will head back to Gary Hogan Field to host Louisiana for a three-game set. Sun Belt Conference play begins March 15 at 6 p.m.
