LEXINGTON, Ky. – For the 14
th time in program history, Little Rock Volleyball has earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association's Team Academic Award the organization announced.
The award, bestowed for the team's academic achievements during the 2018-19 academic year, marks the ninth time in 10 seasons the Trojans have claimed the award. Little Rock first earned the team honor for the 1997-98 academic year.
Little Rock is one of 189 volleyball programs in the nation to receive the team academic award and one of five Sun Belt programs to get recognized along with Appalachian State, Georgia State, Troy and ULM. The 2018-19 accolade marks the 14
th such honor for the Trojans.
The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
Little Rock opens the 2019 season on Aug. 30 at the Arkansas Classic in Fayetteville, facing Montana State before playing the host Razorbacks for just the second time in school history. The Trojans wrap up the opening weekend against Northwestern State on Aug. 31.
The 2019 home opener at the Jack Stephens Center takes place on Sept. 14 against Central Arkansas, a rivalry match that is part of the Governor's I-40 Showdown. In all, the 2019 slate includes 10 home matches at the Jack Stephens Center, as well as four challenging pre-conference tournaments.
