LITTLE ROCK – The Little Rock soccer team (1-4-1) had their defense working hard against the Horned Frogs of TCU (4-1-0), a team that had dethroned a top-25 ranked team in their latest matchup. TCU ended up putting four into the back of the net, but the Trojans made sure to stop multiple attempts thanks to the back line.
Freshman
Mari Young and junior
Morgan Smocovich led the offense for Little Rock, both registering 2 shots, with 1 on goal each. Smocovich was out quick, recording a shot on goal within the first minute of the first half, while Young was on target at the 79th minute.
"We created chances on the break but just couldn't finish," said head coach
Mark Foster. "I'm proud of the defense, as they frustrated them for long stretches of time throughout the game. I'm delighted with our team's progress, especially three weeks out from conference play."
TCU was aggressive in more ways than one: they were almost too eager to get down the field, getting called for offsides six times total, as well as drawing 10 fouls to Little Rock's three. Although the Horned Frogs fired off 21 shots total, only six were on goal.
The Trojans will be back home at the Coleman Sports Complex on Sunday, Sept. 8 at 7:00 p.m. Little Rock will host rivals Central Arkansas in the annual Governor's I-40 Showdown.
